Happy Pi Day, 3/14/21

Here's a quick post on honor of National Pi Day.

Although it's the mathematical Pi, and not the eating Pie day, I like to take time to pick and post a random card of Hall of Fame 3rd Baseman Pie Traynor, of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Traynor was a third sacker from the days of Cobb, Ruth, Hornsby, Sisler, and Gehrig, and a Pittsburgh icon that took the pedestal of Pirate greatness after HOFer Honus Walker.

Traynor is often overlooked because due to the focus of "modern" baseball third baseman, but he's deservedly in the HOF.

Have a sensational Sunday, and, of course, let's all Play BALL! ☠️⚾

  1. In the 1970s, but Kellogg's (1972 All-Time Greats) and Topps (1976 All-Time All-Stars) had him as the greatest third baseman ever. Obviously Mike Schmidt hadn't established himself as a great yet, but nowadays most baseball experts would say Eddie Matthews should have been the choice at that time, and Home Run Baker and Jimmy Collins were probably the best of the early years ahead of Traynor.
