Tigers Card Tuesday... 1960 Topps Al Kaline All-Star

Today's Tigers Card Tuesday has been delayed a couple of weeks because my arthritis simply refused to cooperate.

The one and only, Mr. Tiger, Al Kaline was a 18x All-Star, and I've been wanting his 1960 Topps AS card for a very long time.

    1960 Topps #561 Al Kaline

As the 1960 Topps cards were making their debut, I was making mine, over at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, on February 19, 1960.

That's why the Kaline AS card is so special to me... I love the number 60 behind the Kaline shadow.

➡️ In 1959 Kaline batted .327, with 27 homers and 94 RBI, securing his appearance as a 1960 Sport Magazine All-Star Selection.

🀲 The only time I had actually held a 1960 Kaline AS card was at a local show here in Kalamazoo a couple of years ago, when I didn't have enough money to buy the card.

Now I have completed my 1960 Topps bookends of the great Tigers right fielder.

Have a great week... Play BALL! 🐱

Happy Flag πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Day!

Well, there's still no big league baseball games being played.

As fans we can still hope that the two sides figure it out before it gets to late.

Meanwhile, here's a very cool vintage baseball card with Old Glory πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ prominently displayed.

Have a great Sunday! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ⚾πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Pimping another Contest- Chavez Ravine

While reading my daily blog list, I came across a link to a contest being held by Chavez Ravine.

First off, it's cool to find a blog that I hadn't been following, plus, it's a Dodger fan(My fave NL club), another cool thing.

His contest is asking about the card, or cards, that got you started collecting.

For me, it was the love of baseball, and wanting to have any and all cards of my 1968 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers.

Head on over to the link above follow Chavez Ravine, and get into the contest...there's a bunch of awesome prizes! πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ’―

Good Luck, and, always remember to o Play BALL! ⚾

7 Day Card Challenge....Day 4

For the second consecutive day a former Michigan Wolverine is showcased in the 7 Day Card Challenge.

This time it's All-American hoops star Chris Webber, so honored as my favorite basketball card.

1993 Classic #1, Chris Webber

The Webber RC is still, 27 years later my favorite hoops card, a true "classic" photo of that trademark Webber tounge as he goes up for one of his many power dunks as a member of Michigan's Fab Five.

Tomorrow's Day 5 post will feature a favorite "other sports" card, and I have a couple of cards that are good choices to choose from.

Have a great day...Go BLUE!

7 Day Card Challenge... Day 3

It's Day 3 for me in the 7 Day Card Challenge, and today it's My Favorite Football Card.

While I've never been much of a football card collector, I have managed to acquire my fair share of gridiron cards.

1955 Topps All-American #35 Tom Harmon

Last October 17th I featured Tom and this card for "Football Card Friday" on the blog.

Football Card Friday/ October 17, 2019.

My favorite football cards are those of former Michigan Football players, Detroit Lions players, as well as a few players from other college and NFL teams that I like.

🏈 You're probably surprised that I didn't pick a Tom Brady card today.

I do have a favorite card if I had chose to go that way, but I've loved this Harmon card since I got it in the 1980s, and, after all, he's the 1940 Heisman Trophy winner, and, is the greatest Wolverine to ever play in Ann Arbor.

Have a great week, and thanks so much for reading my blog today.

Play Ball...oh, wait... Go BLUE!

A&G Minis... Vote and a Contest

Our buddy Nachos Grande has a awesome contest involving his favorite set of cards, Allen & Ginter.

From Prrsidents, War heroes, to ball players, stamps, flowers, you name it, the A&G Minis are always interesting.

My favorite sets that I've seen are Revolutionary War cards, as well as cards of Sailors and, of course, baseball players.

I've always been intrigued by the tiny inserts, and I'm hoping, as a ex- US Navy guy,  to get some of the cool looking Sailor cards.

Make sure to head to the link above for all the contest details...Its sure to be lots of fun!

Here's a A&G  site to check out some of the cards.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, and, as always... PLAY BALL!

7 Day Card Challenge-Day 2

Day 2 of Cardpocalypse 7 Day Card Challenge is a card (any sport), with a unique photo.

2020 Topps Series 1 had some cool baseball cards, and a few unique images.

My favorite of those unique cards...and very cool baseball cards was actually a card that I posted about back on March 24th.

There's been a lot of great cards in 2020, but, a little over 2 months after that post, the Travis Demeritt card is still, to me, the Topps Card of the Year...so far.

See y'all again tomorrow for Day 3... Play Ball! ⚾

7 Day Card Challenge- Day 1

Even though I saw the original post, I'm way, way late in starting  the 7 Day Trading Card Challenge, posted by Cardpocalypse.

Day 1- Favorite card acquired during quarantine.

In three+ months of quarantine I was able to collect quite a few cards, and picking a pair of special cards.

For the most part I haven't been a fan of the Topps Project 2020 cards, but when I saw this one I knew I'd get it.

I'm too young to have seen Koufax pitch (I was only 6 when he retired after the 1966 season), but he's still one of my All-Time favorite big league pitchers.

After I started this post I received my 2nd Koufax card of Project 2020.

Pictures are terrific, but they don't come close to having this awesome Koufax card in my hand.

(Took these images off ye olde Internet because my hands are crap and I can't seem to get a good picture.)

See you tomorrow for my Day 2 post.
