This Day in Baseball- Big Daddy HR #50/51

Today is the 30th Anniversary of former Detroit Tigers first baseman Cecil Fielder's 50th and 51st HRs in 1990.

Cecil came to Detroit after playing in Japan, and for the next few years, was the best run producing slugger in baseball.

Fielder played four years (1985-88) with the Toronto Blue Jays before going to Japan in 1989 to play for the Hashim Tigers.

In issue #61 of Baseball Card Magazine in 1990, Cecil was represented with a 1969 Topps Replica card.

The back of the card, is a lovely shade of pink.

Don't forget to check out today's #SaveSecondBase post on Collecting Cutch.

"Big Daddy" led the American League in HRs in 1990, with his 51 dingers, then led the A.L. again in 1991, with 44 HRs.

Fielder became the first player to lead the league in RBI for three consecutive years, 1990-91-92, since another big man, Babe Ruth.

🎬 1990 was a "pretty" decent year for a young actress named Julia Roberts, who made a movie called Pretty Woman.

Julia was nominated for an Oscar, and although she didn't win, she would, a decade later, the gold statue would be hers, for "Erin Brockovich."

Julia has such a beautiful smile, and will always be one of my favorite actors.

Have a great Saturday Night...Play Ball! ⚾💗

  1. A. I remember that season when Fielder hit 51. People were trying to get their hands on the 86D rookie card of his.

    G. Recently watch an Amazon show called Homecoming that had Julia Roberts in it. It was pretty good.

    1. Fielder was also on the 1987 Toronto team that lost the A.L. East Pennant to the Tigers on the last day of the season.

      Thanks for commenting.
