Happy Baseball Birthday... Gary Boyd

Happy Baseball Birthday! wishes go out to former Cleveland Indians RHP Gary Boyd, who turns 72 today.

Gary Lee Boyd  was born on August 22, 1946, in Pasadena, California, played high school baseball at Juniperos Serra HS in Gardena, CA, and was drafted by the Indians in the 4th round of the very first big league draft in 1965.

Boyd made his big league debut for the Tribe on August 1, 1969 vs the Washington Senators.

Gary holds a special place in Indians history as he was the first player to wear uniform #54 for Cleveland.

I go every day to the Baseball Reference Bullpen page to go through the daily history of baseball and look up the birthdays for that day, and today I saw Gary Body's name, and, well, that last name is special to me as it's my middle name, so, I absolutely had to give a Happy Baseball Birthday! shout out to a fellow man named Boyd!

A Look at 2019 Topps Baseball Cards

Across all their social media pages today, Topps gave all card collectors a brief look at the design for their 2019 Flagship Baseball Card Set.

I've never really understood why Topps releases the images in the middle of August when collectors are still trying to put together sets of Topps Series 1 and 2, Topps Heritage, and just a few days after National Baseball Card Day.

That said, here's the two images Topps released.

                                                   Card images from Topps.com

There have already been many reviews about the release, both good and bad, but, for me, I actually like the cards, and look forward to seeing more images released, including, hopefully, what the Detroit Tigers players cards will look like.

I think the design is clean and crisp, and I like that each cards outline will have the corresponding teams colors on the cards edges, with the team logo in the right corner of the card.

I also like the look of the Betts horizontal card, and hope that a few of my favorite players are on those cards, including Miguel Cabrera, Nicholas Castellanos, Matt Boyd, Justin Verlander, Trevor Story, and J.T. Realmuto.

Here's to all the great card collectors out there, I hope you, like me, look forward to the release of this set next year.
