OTD in Tigers History- October 7th = Good Things

Today's is October 7th... Officially two weeks away from my 15th Wedding Anniversary.

October 7th has been a good day in the history of the Detroit Tigers, with the team winning big games on the way World Series titles.

🐯 In 1935, Goose Goslin drove in the winning run in Game 6, beating the Chicago Cubs for the first World Series Championship in franchise history.

🐯 In 1945, Hank Greenberg cracked out three doubles and the Tigers took a 3-2 Series lead over the Cubs.

🐯 In 1968, with the Tigers trailing the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the World Series, Willie Horton throws out Lou Brock and Detroit comes back to win the game, 5-3.

πŸ‘‰ It's a pivotal play for the Tigers, and of course, it's my favorite defensive play in World Series history because of my hero, Bill Freehan blocking home plate.

The Cardinals never recovered from Brock not sliding, and the Tigers overcame a 3-1 Series deficit to beat the Redbirds in 7 games.

πŸ“† Coming into the 1968 big league season, the Tigers were coming off a heart breaking final day of the 1967 American League Pennant race, losing to the then California Angeles at Tiger Stadium.

It would mold the team going into spring training in 1968, and the team put together one of the best clubs in Tigers history.

🐯 Although Al Kaline is the only Tigers HOFer (not counting Eddie Matthews, at the end of his career), the 1967 team had the building blocks already in place with Horton, Mickey Stanley, Jim Northrup, Norm Cash, Mickey Lolich, Denny McLain, and, of course, Bill Freehan.

Oh, and in case you think I forgot...

Raquel Welch was the final "cupcake" on Andy Dufresne's prison cell in The Shawshank Redemption.

The poster is from the movie One Million Years B.C. , and although there's no pink outfit, Raquel certainly gave us plenty eye candy.

As did Andy's first cupcake, Rita Hayworth.

And, cupcake #2 was also Pretty in Pink.

  1. Raquel Welch is definitely one of the most gorgeous human beings to walk on this planet. For years I targeted her certified autograph, but they're just too darn pricey.
