Tigers Card Tuesday...Hello from Idaho

How's everyone doing today?

Today is day #2 of our vacation in the beautiful State of Idaho, and we're just blown away by it's beauty.

There have been 30 Big league ballplayers born in Idaho, most notably a HOFer by the name of Harmon Killebrew.

🐯⚾ This is the only card I could find on TCDB of Killebrew w/ a Detroit Tigers player on it, from 1964 Topps.

6️⃣4️⃣ Al Kaline had 101 RBI in 1963, leading the Tigers...and sharing a card with "The Killer" is good enough to make Tigers Card Tuesday!

The back of the '64 RBI Leaders card also has former Tigers players listed, with Rocky Colavito w/ 91 RBI, Norm Cash w/ 79, Dick McAuliffe w/ 61, and Billy Bruton w/ 49.

Harmon Killebrew was born in Payette, Idaho, which is quite a bit of a trek from where I'm staying.

I picked up this sign at a Hobby Lobby today.

It was a must purchase.

Have a great night, Play BALL!

Blogging from the Friendly Skies!

Happy Monday everyone, from my seat on United Airlines, well up above the clouds on my way to Boise, Idaho.

Tracy and I are on our way to see her Dad, who lives on a small town called Burly, Idaho.

From Boise, we'll have a couple hours+ drive to Burly, and we'll be very jet lagged, I'm sure, by the time we get to our hotel.

It's been a long morning...been up since 4 am... UGH!

Small flight to Chicago was very successful, and everyone was masked up and doing well...as us everyone on this flight.

It's a very good day, after all, even with a lack of sleep, after my beloved Michigan Wolverines beat Florida State yesterday in hoops, moving on to the ELITE 8, where they'll meet the UCLA Bruins tomorrow night.

It's also just a few days until the start of the 2021 big league baseball season, and it certainly will be interesting, because, Idaho is 2 hours earlier than I'm used to, so it's a 11am Tigers game for me.

"Stormin'" Norman Cash and "The Rock," Rocky Colavito, are awesome additions to my collection!

I did manage to get a few more cards last week, including more 1961 Topps cards for my '61 card quest... I'll update the numbers later this week.

And, heck, I even added another "Boyd" to the ever growing "BOYD Binder."

This is BOB BOYD card #5 in my collection.

It's always a good thing when another Matthew BOYD card arrives.

Well, that's about all I have for now, thanks for stopping by and reading ye olde Baseball Blog.

Hope y'all have a fantastic week, no matter what's in your agendas.

I'll blog again once we're on the ground, and at our destination.

Play BALL! ⚾...and, Go BLUE! 〽️🏀

Tigers Card Tuesday... Beau Burrows

Today's Tigers Card Tuesday! was an automatic pick for today's post as soon as I opened up the envelope and saw this beautiful baseball card.

                       2021 Topps #86A-BBU

1986 Beau Burrows Autographed Card.

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was getting scammed, because the cost of the card was a whopping $1.35 + $4.19 shipping.

The shipping seemed high, but the low card cost more than made up for it, and I gave the seller a well deserved *️⃣*️⃣*️⃣*️⃣*️⃣.

Well, the card arrived safely, and now the eBay prices are upwards of $20.00, so, I feel extremely happy that I got the deal that I did.

Hope y'all are having as good a Tuesday as I am.

Even though I wasn't feeling well (arthritis sucks!) I got my second dose of the Moderna Covid-19 Vaccine this morning at the Battle Creek VA, and as I'm writing this I'm watching the Tigers play the Yankees on FOX Sports Detroit.

We're just 9 days away from Opening Day b, and what a beautiful day it will be.

Have a great Tuesday, and thanks for taking time out of your day to stop by and read my blog.

Happy Matt Boyd Day...Spring is Here!

Matt Boyd started his 4th game of the spring today in Lakeland against the Pirates.

Boyd pitched 4 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 run, and struck out 5, tossing 80 pitches, 51 for strikes (5k).

•2️⃣0️⃣8️⃣ Matthew's ERA this spring is 2.08.

Looking ahead, Boyd should get one last start before the team heads back to Detroit, and I still expect him to start on Opening Day.

Yeah BOYD!

Tigers Card Tuesday... 1961 Al Kaline

Today's Tigers Card Tuesday! is card #40 in my quest for 61 different 1961 Topps cards, for my 61st Happy Baseball Birthday! last month.

           🐯⚾ 1961 Topps #429 Al Kaline ⚾🐯

The arrival last week of Mr. TIger was an automatic pick for today's post, although, honestly, I had no idea it was card #40 of my set.

So, that leaves just 21 more '61 Topps cards to go, I hope to get there in the next few months, and I thank everyone that sent me their extras.

I only have 4 Tigers cards in the '61 Topps quest do far, and next month I'm gonna try and acquire a couple big the big boys, Norm Cash & Rocky Colavito.

I've surveyed a few of the cards on eBay, COMC, etc., and I hope they'll be available when I can pick them up.

Have a terrific day, and, until next time, get outside for a game of catch.

Happy BOYD Day, 3/15/21

Matthew Boyd starts his third game of the spring today, his first at home, against the Blue Jays, at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland.

Matthew has pitched pretty well in his previous two starts this spring, and I'm hoping he continues it again today, making his case for his second consecutive year of getting the start on Opening Day.

📺 The game is on FOX Sports Detroit here in Michigan, the third game the Tigers have played on FSD since Friday.

✌️ The Tigers lost to the Yankees, 4-2, but they rebounded  yesterday at home against Baltimore in a 5-2 win.

👉 Just a reminder that tomorrow is gonna be a pretty cool Tigers Card Tuesday! so make sure to stop by.

Have a good start to your week, and, as always, Play BALL! 🐯⚾

Happy Pi Day, 3/14/21

Here's a quick post on honor of National Pi Day.

Although it's the mathematical Pi, and not the eating Pie day, I like to take time to pick and post a random card of Hall of Fame 3rd Baseman Pie Traynor, of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Traynor was a third sacker from the days of Cobb, Ruth, Hornsby, Sisler, and Gehrig, and a Pittsburgh icon that took the pedestal of Pirate greatness after HOFer Honus Walker.

Traynor is often overlooked because due to the focus of "modern" baseball third baseman, but he's deservedly in the HOF.

Have a sensational Sunday, and, of course, let's all Play BALL! ☠️⚾

Flair Friday #1

I've wanted to start this new series of posts, Flair Friday! for some time now, but I only had a couple of cards, and even though Im only up to 7 cards of Charlotte Flair, I figured it was a good time to start.

The reason I even remotely follow wrestling these days is because a couple of years ago I found out that the daughter of legendary wrestler Ric Flair was also wrestling, and when I saw Charlotte Flair, I automatically became a fan of "The QUEEN!"

7️⃣ 2020 Topps WWE Chrome #20 Refractor
                             Charlotte Flair

This card of QUEEN Charlotte is the newest, card #7, in my Flair collection.

👉 Technically, I guess, it's card #8, because I have the below card, but it's on a separate page in the binder...you can't see her, er, front.

🤔 For me, this is a Sasha Banks card.

Ashley Elizabeth Flair was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1986...I was in my second year in the US Navy... was the WWE Rookie of the Year in 2013, and is a multiple WWE Champion.

Maybe, one day, when the pandemic is under control, the WWE will come back to Wings Events Center in Kalamazoo and I'll get to see her wrestle in person.

As I say, I'm a newbie follower of Charlotte, or, as Paul of Scribbled Ink calls her, my wrestling chick."

2017 Topps Women's Division #R- 29

Paul added this to my collection last year!

👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
My collection of my favorite lady wrestler is quite small, but I'm hoping to improve on that as the year progresses.... there's a card show locally in a couple of weeks, that might be a good place to start.

Have a terrific weekend, and, as always, thanks for taking time out of your day to stop by and read my blog.

It's a Maize & Blue Happy Baseball Birthday! to former Michigan pitcher and big league veteran, Rich Hill.

⚾ My 2019 Topps National Baseball Card Day of Rich Hill.

Richard Joseph Hill was born on March 11, 1980, in Boston, Massachusetts, played baseball at Milton High School in Milton, MA., then went on to play college baseball at Michigan.

Happy Boyd Day! Spring Training Start #2

Hey, the Tigers are actually on TV today, in Clearwater, to face the Phillies.

2020 Topps Chrome USA-MB Matt Boyd

Boyd got the start for the second time this spring, going 3 IP, giving up 3 hits (1 HR), walking one batter, striking out 3 Philadelphia batters.

Matt's ERA this spring in his 5 IP is 1.80.

Both of Matt's starts have been on the road so far, including his first start, which was against the Yankees in Tampa.

Have a great rest of your day, and, Go TIGERS!

International Women's Day, 2021

Today is International Women's Day, a celebration for women all over the globe.

Doris Sams was a great ballplayer for the Muskegon/Kalamazoo Lassies in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

I got this cool card from the great Gummy Arts because Doris represented my home of West Michigan.

I was born in Kalamazoo, and lived in Muskegon from the middle to late 1960s, before moving to Portage, a suburb of Kalamazoo, in the summer of 1970.

Hockey Day InAmerica 2021

                 Hockey Day In America, 2021

NBC/NBCSN will televise 4 games today, staring at 12 NOON, with the Buffalo Sabres at the New York Islanders, on NBC.

The only drawback about today is that my Detroit Red Wings aren't playing, a mistake on scheduling by the NHL for sure.

I did get a Bobby Ryan HDIA card on the Topps NHL app.

The Red Wings are the #1 USA franchise in NHL History.

The Detroit Red Wings team in 1959-60.

The Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cup Championships, the most of any NHL team not named Montreal and Toronto.

It's just my opinion, but I'd think the NHL would be wise to schedule every American franchise to play on HDIA, and have games all across TV, on NBC/MBCSN, and the NHL Network.

Have a great Sunday afternoon, enjoy the day of sports, and... LET'S GO RED WINGS! 🏒

Happy Matt Boyd Day!

It's the first Happy Matt Boyd! day of 2021, as my favorite big league pitcher takes the mound for those first time in Spring Training, against the Yankees, in Tampa.

The game is a 1:05 pm start at Legends field, and will be rebroadcast at 7 pm on the MLB Network.

Enjoy the day of baseball, and and have a terrific weekend.

Yeah BOYD! 🐯⚾
