Tigers Card Tuesday... Getting Some Relief

👉👉 I started this post late this morning.

Unfortunately, I've had to stop many times, so, I'll have to cut this post short.

💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾

Getting relief is something that's been a constant for me for over a decade now, (including today) as I've relied on countless doctors, nurses, and physical therapists to help.

Much like me, my beloved Detroit Tigers have been searching for relief help over the last decade....and both of us have had mixed reviews.

Today's Tigers Card Tuesday is just a few pink cards of some of the better Tigers relievers.

Please remember to head over to Collecting Cutch to see today's Save Second Base post.

Thanks so much for continuing to read my blog.

National Savings Day, 2020

Today is National Savings Day, an appropriate day in October, as we watch playoff baseball and continue to post PINK baseball cards as we help our friend Collecting Cutch bring awareness to the deadly disease that is Breast Cancer.

We save, and have saved, many baseball cards in our lives, and in the case of yours truly, I've done a better job of saving baseball cards than money.

Currently my TCDB total is at $872. 07...of course, that's not what I'd get for them, but it's a nice number to have, and I've barely scratched the proverbial surface of cards that I need to enter.

Saves in baseball have only been an official statistic since 1969.

We all have our favorite team closers, guys who came out of the bullpen and saved games for our teams.

In 1984, Tigers closer Willie Hernandez had what's possibly the best year any reliever has ever had, saving 38 of 39 games, winning bother the American League Cy Young and MVP Awards.

Hernandez saved 120 games between 1984-89 for the Tigers, the 4th most in club history.

Couldn't find any pink cards of Willie, but he has a few 1980s cards with pink card backs.

The Tigers certainly have had a bad run of relievers and closers for the past decade, or so, but we still find out favorites to root for.

Who's your favorite closer for your team?

Do you have a favorite closer that didn't/doesn't play for your team?

👉👉 I'll be posting my answers in tomorrow's Tigers Card Tuesday.

Have a awesome Monday, and, as always, thanks for taking time out of your day to read my blog.

Sunday Silence

Today is a very quiet day around the house, just myself, my dog, and two cats.

Tracy is at church, then she's going along with some fellow church members, taking a bus trip somewhere north for the day go "look at the fall colors."

🍁 As for sports today, my Detroit Lions are on a bye week (much needed) and Tom Brady is off after playing on Thursday night, and losing, to the Chicago Bears.

🏈 The afternoon TV lineup will be mostly the NFL Red Zone, with clicking over to the 1 p.m.  games on our local schedule, Chiefs/Raiders and Eagles/Steelers.

I've already been watching Sunday NFL Countdown this morning, with host Samantha Ponder.

Ponder is as good as it gets in football TV reporting, as well as in studio hosting.

Make sure you head over to our friend Collecting Cutch's blog for today's pink baseball cards, continuing his awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Ponder is married to former Minnesota Vikings QB  Christian Ponder, which explains her questionable cap attire here.

Christian Ponder played college football at Florida State, and was the Vikings 1st Round pick in 2011.

It should be duly noted that the Vikings are my most despised football team not named the Buckeyes, and Minnesota is clearly responsible for my disdain for the color purple.

🤔 Are you watching football today, or just waiting on tonight's Astros/ Rays ALCS Game One?

I'll be watching the game tonight, but I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's NLCS Game One, with the Braves and Dodgers, my pick to win the World Series.

It should be a terrific series.

Have a awesome Sunday...Play Ball! 💗🏈

Happy Baseball Birthday...Andrew McCutchen

How appropriate that during Save Second Base! we can wish a Happy Baseball Birthday! to Phillies outfielder Andrew Mccutchen.

Mccutchen played in 57 games for the Phillies in this shortened big league season, batting .253, with 10 home runs, and 34 RBI.

Mccutchen has had some cool digital cards on the Topps BUNT app over the years, but few were as cool as this PINK Neon card.

Playing the daily scoring games on the BUNT app is fun, well, most of the time, and getting good points from CUTCH during a Phillies game helped me out a few times in 2020.

💗 Although, not pink, I did successfully vote for McCutchen for this Fan's Choice card earlier this year.

I'm sure it's been a terrific celebration over at the Collecting Cutch household today.

👉 Make sure to head over to his blog as he continues to bring awareness to Breast Cancer with his daily posts throughout October.

🤔 Do you have a favorite Andrew McCutchen card?

Are you on BUNT?

Who's been your favorite subject so far on CUTCH's posts?

Have a great Saturday night...and, as always... Play Ball! ⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗

Cody Bellinger ... He Gives...and he takes Away

The 2020 big league playoffs have been exciting to watch, and late last night we were witness to more magic, courtesy of the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 National League Division Series, and the 2019 N. L. MVP, Cody Bellinger, was the reason why.

This Pink Donruss Elire Cody Bellinger card is way cool. 😎

Bellinger hit a solo HR in the 4th inning, and then, in the 7th inning, playing center field, robbed Padres shortstop  Fernando Tatis, Jr., of a go ahead HR.

Bellinger  was the first player to both hit a HR, and rob a HR, since the Cardinals Allen Craig in Game 7 of the 2011 World Series.

If this game had been played at Dodger Stadium I'm sure Mary Hart's cutout would've jumped out of her seat.

I'm not sure who made this, but its a terrific custom made 1973 Topps baseball card of the legendary TV host and Dodgers fan.

Mary needs to be a Save Second Baseman!

Mary as never disappointed us with her looks over the years.

Reportedly, Mary had both of her legs insured for $1,000,000.

Make sure you head over to today's post by Collecting Cutch, as he continues his month long journey to bring awareness to Breast Cancer. 💗

Enjoy all the playoff baseball games today.

Have a great Thursday.. Play Ball! ⚾️💗

OTD in Tigers History- October 7th = Good Things

Today's is October 7th... Officially two weeks away from my 15th Wedding Anniversary.

October 7th has been a good day in the history of the Detroit Tigers, with the team winning big games on the way World Series titles.

🐯 In 1935, Goose Goslin drove in the winning run in Game 6, beating the Chicago Cubs for the first World Series Championship in franchise history.

🐯 In 1945, Hank Greenberg cracked out three doubles and the Tigers took a 3-2 Series lead over the Cubs.

🐯 In 1968, with the Tigers trailing the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the World Series, Willie Horton throws out Lou Brock and Detroit comes back to win the game, 5-3.

👉 It's a pivotal play for the Tigers, and of course, it's my favorite defensive play in World Series history because of my hero, Bill Freehan blocking home plate.

The Cardinals never recovered from Brock not sliding, and the Tigers overcame a 3-1 Series deficit to beat the Redbirds in 7 games.

📆 Coming into the 1968 big league season, the Tigers were coming off a heart breaking final day of the 1967 American League Pennant race, losing to the then California Angeles at Tiger Stadium.

💗The TIGERS team name on the 1967 Topps Cards were the color pink.💗

It would mold the team going into spring training in 1968, and the team put together one of the best clubs in Tigers history.

🐯 Although Al Kaline is the only Tigers HOFer (not counting Eddie Matthews, at the end of his career), the 1967 team had the building blocks already in place with Horton, Mickey Stanley, Jim Northrup, Norm Cash, Mickey Lolich, Denny McLain, and, of course, Bill Freehan.

1️⃣1️⃣ If anyone has an extra copy of the Topps Heritage Buyback of Bill Freehan, please let me know, I'm sure we can work out a trade.

Oh, and in case you think I forgot...

Raquel Welch was the final "cupcake" on Andy Dufresne's prison cell in The Shawshank Redemption.

The poster is from the movie One Million Years B.C. , and although there's no pink outfit, Raquel certainly gave us plenty eye candy.

As did Andy's first cupcake, Rita Hayworth.

And, cupcake #2 was also Pretty in Pink.

Tigers Card Tuesday (Weld)...For the LOVE of Miguel Cabrera

Its another Tigers Card Tuesday! on ye olde blog today.

Miguel Cabrera struggled a bit in 2020, but when it all came together as the season was winding up, the future HOFer showed off that old Triple Crown power, and has put himself in reach for historic numbers at the start of 2021.

2020 Topps Chrome Pink Miguel Cabrera
🐯⚾💗🐯⚾💗

Cabrera will start next season w/ 2,866 base hits, and 487 home runs, and all Tigers fans will be able to celebrate the 2012 & 2013 American League MVP as he hits his 500th career HR, and collects the 3,000th base hit of his remarkable big league career.

What better way to celebrate Tigers Card Tuesday than also celebrating movie and TV actress Tuesday Weld.

Tuesday Weld was a star in the 1960s, on both the silver screen and on television.

Rotten Tomatoes has given her a  💯 for her role in the 1968 film Pretty Poison, opposite Anthony Perkins.

Weld was also a love interest for David Jansen in The Fugitive.

Later on in life she was in the 1993 movie Falling Down, playing the wife Robert Duvall.

🎬 Full disclosure- I've seen Falling Down a few times, and not until I was looking up her bio info did I know that Weld was Duvall's wife in the movie.

🤔 What's your favorite Miguel Cabrera card?

🤔 Have you seen a TV show, or a movie that had Tuesday Weld in it?

🤔 Have you been keeping up with Collecting Cutch and his October posts?

💗 Make sure you hop on over and check out today's post.

🍑 Remember, each post by CUTCH is to raise awareness for Breast Cancer, a truly deadly disease that affects to many women in America. 🇺🇸

Have a great Tuesday!

OTD in Tigers History- Harry Heilmann edges out Ty Cobb

One of the things that makes baseball great is the oddities of the game.

🐯⚾ For Tigers fans, the 1920s brings us one of those things in HOFer Harry Heilmann, who won four batting titles in the decade.

            1977 Reprint of 1941 Play Ball #171

(💗💗 PINK Baseball Cards are the norm for October, so please go to today's Collecting CUTCH Blog post for all the details. 💗💗)

📆 On this day in 1925, Heilmann won his third American League batting title, beating out his teammate, the great Ty Cobb, .393, to .389.

Harry's first batting title came in 1923, and the slugging Detroit outfielder would go on to win two more batting championships, in 1927, and 1929.

🐯🏆 Batting titles in 1921, 1923, 1925, 1927...titles all in ODD years,  now that makes quite the oddity.

🥇 In 1926, Tigers outfielder Heinie Manush led the A.L. in batting average, giving the team half of the decades batting champions in the first 8 years.

                      1934 R318 Batter Up #77

                           Heinie Manush

The 1920s were a wild and crazy decade, with America having a decade long party that included The Jazz Age, F. Scott Fitzgerald,  Bobby Jones, Babe Ruth, Charles Lindbergh, Prohibition, Women Earning the Right to Vote, and, of course, the one, and only, flapper.

🗳️ With the right to vote, women immediately felt in control of their own lives, and that included the way they dressed.

The silent movies were very popular during the time, and the most famous actress of the "Roaring 20s"  was Clara Bow.

Known as the "It Girl," Bow was the face of the the 1920s, making 46 silent movies, receiving as many as 45,000 pieces of fan mail in 1927.

Bow would go on to make 11 "talkies" as well, and still, 100 years later, is still the darling of the 1920s.

What's your favorite thing about the Roaring 20s?

Red Grange, and college football?

Lindy flying across the Atlantic Ocean?

Babe Ruth hitting 60 HRs?

Knute Rockne and Notre Dame?

Let's hear from you in the comments section...and...have you entered CUTCH's contest?

Have a great week, and, as always, Play Ball! 💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗
