Pink Out The Vote

Tomorrow is October 1st, the start of my 15th Wedding Anniversary month.

October is also just a month before our National Election, and I hope that all of my reader's are registered to vote.

🗳️ Go here for all your States voting info.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and that means another month of our friend Collecting Cutch raising awareness by showing off Pink Andrew McCutchen Baseball Cards, making sure at least one woman, who cannot afford it, gets a mammogram.

Oh, of course he'll be posting pictures of some beautiful ladies along the way.

The more comments that are made on each post, the more money that will be raised to battle Breast Cancer.

💗 Go here to see CUTCH's final September post, and all the stuff he wants to see on our blogs for the next 31 days.

Let's all PLAY BALL! ⚾💗⚾💗⚾💗

Tigers Card Tuesday... 1975 Topps Catchers/Outfielders

This is my first Tigers Card Tuesday using the new Blogger, and I'm hoping it works out.

A couple of weeks ago Jon from A Penny Sleeves had a Free Card Friday post and one of the cards still available was this 1975 Topps Rookie Catchers cards.

1975 Topps #630, Rookie Catchers & Outfielders

🎯 While Gary Carter is the obvious best player on the card, the two Tigers players,
Danny Meyer, and Leon Roberts, were two promising young ballplayers that only lasted a couple of years in Motown.

▶️ Meyer (1976 Expansion Draft), and Roberts (1977 trade to Seattle), were good ballplayers, but had to make way for a couple of power hitting guys named Steve Kemp, and Jason Thompson.

🤔 I always forget about the '75 RC of Roberts, because of his 1976 Topps Card. (NOT pictured because of the NEW Blogger...?)

Thanks, again, Jon, for this amazing baseball card.

Have a great week, and, as always, remember to PLAY BALL! 🐯⚾

Bill Freehan 3D, Kelly Nash, and Collecting Cutch

We are officially one week from October, and that means we're also a week out from another year of #SaveSecondBase with our buddy Collecting Cutch.

Each year CUTCH brings awareness to Breast Cancer, posting pictures of beautiful ladies, and PINK Andrew McCutchen Baseball Cards.

Cutch has asked us to post something 3D in our collection.

You know I had to post a 1970s Kellogg's
3-D card of my hero, Bill Freehan.

My 1970 Kellogg's #57 Freehan card is one of a few that I got out of a box of cereal as a 10 year old.

Of course, being that it's a Save Second Base post, I had to come up with something at least in the Double D category for his Blog Around Preview Contest.

Kelly Nash is a beautiful young woman, who's been hosting the weekend edition of Quick Pitch, as well as The Rundown, and Hot Stove on the MLB Network.

👀👀  Previously, she was the on field reporter for the Tampa Bays Rays on FOX Sports Florida, were she became famous for this selfie at Fenway Park.

That's how I first became aware of the Clemson graduate, who continues to root for the Rays, and she must be ecstatic over the team's 2020 A.L. East Championship.

Please remember to go to Collecting Cutch, and, remember why October is so important.

Not only is it playoff baseball time, it's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and CUTCH will donate to Susan G. Komen based on how many comments we leave on his daily posts.

Have a great weekend, and, as always, thanks for taking time out of your day to read my blog.

Kicking Off Saving Second Base w/ Collecting Cutch

Cancer sucks.

In the United States approximately 12% of all women will get breast cancer, including 85% of women who have no family history of the disease.

In a little more than two weeks, our friend Collecting Cutch will kick off his annual Save Second Base campaign.

Earlier this year the disease claimed actress Kelly Preston, at the age of 57.

Preston, who began acting some 40 years ago, is famous for roles in movies like Twins, Jerry Maguire, Jack Frost, and, my personal favorite, For Love of the Game .

Preston was married to John Travolta in 1991, and the couple also started in a couple of movies together, including Gotti, and the infamously bad Battlefield Earth.

Trying to pick my favorite Travolta movie isn't as easy as saying it's Grease, because I only like the movie because of the beautiful Olivia Newton-John.

I'm going with the hilarious Get Shorty, a movie that's probably not high up on the list of most Travolta fans.

My other possible choices were Swordfish, Wild Hogs, and The General's Daughter.

Make sure you follow CUTCH, and let's all get behind him as he brings awareness to Breast Cancer.

Have a great week.

George Thomas Seaver, 1944-2020

The man known as "Tom Terrific," Tom Seaver, passed away on Monday, at the age of 75.

Seaver, who won 311 games, with the Mets, Reds, White Sox, and Red Sox, was a 3-time Cy Young Award Winner, a World Series Champion.

Seaver was also a terrific broadcaster after his career, doing games nationally, and for both the Mets and the Yankees.

In 1980, a friend of mine drove us to Cincinnati to watch Seaver pitch against the Dodgers.

On Saturday, August 9th, we were two of 45, 095 at Riverfront Stadium, as Jerry Reuss and the Dodgers beat Seaver and the Reds, 9-4.

➡️ Also playing in that game were a who's who of terrific ballplayers that I grew up watching.

For the Dodgers, they still had the great infield of Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, and Ron Cey, as well as outfielders Dusty Baker and Rick Monday.

Reuss pitched 6 innings, relieved by a young, future Cy Young winner named Rick Sutcliffe.

As for the Reds, they had a lineup that included members of the "Big Red Machine" of the 1970s, Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey, Dave Concepcion, George Foster, and Dan Driessen, the first ever designated hitter in World Series play, in 1976.

I lived in Jacksonville, Florida, for 36 years, and loved going to Suns games, watching future HOF players at old Wolfson Park, where a young Tom Seaver pitched in 1966.

The 1966 JAX Suns also had legendary Mets players like "Choo Choo" Coleman and Tug Mcgraw, and Bus Harrelson.

Tom Seaver had his #41 retired by the Mets in 1988.

➡️ Today in honor of the man known as "The Franchise," the players on Topps BUNT received a "41" avatar.

To the family, friends, fans, and teammates of Tom Seaver, please accept my condolences on your loss.

May God bless Tom, and his family. 🙏

Tigers Card Tuesday... 2008 Topps Miguel Cabrera

This week I wanted to honor the great Miguel Cabrera for Tigers Card Tuesday, because, on Sunday, the future HOFer joined an elite club when he collected his 2,000th career base hit in a Tigers uniform.

          2008 Topps #10 Miguel Cabrera

What I like most about 2008 Topps is the team header with TIGERS in the vibrant colors of Blue & Orange.

In his first season in the Motor City, Miggy played in 160 games, collected 180 base hits,  batted .292, with 137 runs batted in.

Cabrera also hit American League leading 37 HRs, the first Tigers player to do so since BIG Daddy Cecil Fielder in 1990 and 1991.

Cabrera was certainly the #1 player on the 2008 Tigers, leading the team in base hits, HRs, RBI, as well as in total bases, with 313.

🐯🐯 There's two versions of the 2008 Topps card of Miggy.

➡️ One card #10 (left), is from the regular base set from Topps, the other, card #DET1 , is, I'm assuming, from the retail set of cards.

I actually thought they were the same card, until I looked at the card back.

👀👀  Today is September 1st, and that means we're just one month away from another awesome October of #SaveSecondBase from our friend Collecting Cutch.

In 2008, Marisa Miller was on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and two years ago,  the beautiful lady from Santa Cruz, California led off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

📎 Keep an eye out for the N.L. leader in doubles as September begins the second half of the short 60 game season.

October should be a terrific month.

As always, thanks for taking time out of your day to read my blog, I really appreciate it.

Have a great week...Play Ball! ⚾
