Today we say Happy Baseball Birthday! to Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve.
Jose is one of my favorite players in baseball, and I voted him the American League MVP last year.
Jose Carlos Altuve was born on May 6, 1990, in Maracay, Venezuela.
Jose signed with the Astros as a amateur free agent in 2007, and made his big league debut for Houston on July 20, 2011, at the age of 21.
Jose may be only 5' 6", 165 lbs., but he plays second base better than any player in the big leagues.
He can also handle the bat, smacking an American League leading 225 base hits in 2014, winning his first A. L. Batting Championship with a .341 average.
This cool poster tells you just how awesome Jose Altuve was last season.
Jose Altuve led the league with 56 stolen bases along the way to playing in his second All-Star Game in 2014.
The Astros are a terrific young baseball club to watch, and they just recently had a 10 game winning streak, vaulting them into 1st place in the A.L. Western Division.
If you haven't seen Jose play, you need to get to your TV, Minute Maid Park, or a ballpark near you to see Jose and his teammates do their thing.
Happy Baseball Birthday! Jose Altuve!
PLAY BALL!
