Blog Batt Around- UGH, those Twins

If you're old enough to remember the 1987 American League Championship Series, well, then, you'll understand my response to the latest Blog Bat Around.

I started disliking/disgust of the Minnesota Twins in that '87 ALCS, and, as a result of that ugly 5 game series loss by my beloved Detroit Tigers, the Twinkies officially replaced the New York Yankees as the team I disliked the most.

The fact that the Twinkies won the World Series in '87, and, again in 1991, with former Tigers ace and future Hall of Famer, Jack Morris.

The last half of the 1990s were not good for the Tigers, especially when facing them Twins Ace Brad Radke

I don't own this 2005 Fleer Ultra card of Brad Radke, but, its a cool baseball card, and, I wouldn't mind having one

The reign of terror continued in the 2000s with sluggers Justin Morneau and future HOFer, Joe Mauer.

In the 2010s it was Brian Dozier crushing baseballs against, seemingly, every Detroit pitcher. 9

I was born in 1960, is my favorite of all the Topps cards of the decade.

When he's healthy, Byron Buxton is a magnificent ballplayer.

  1. I get it. The 1986 Red Sox do that to me.

  2. Twins are more of a team I forget about than a team I dislike. The AL Central teams these days aren't too offensive. I think the last one I didn't like were the old 1990s Cleveland Indians.

  3. I like your take on the BBA. Picking one team and targeting it was a nice touch. My aunt, uncle, and cousin are/were huge Twins fans. And me being the guy who goes against the grain when it comes to family and sports... rooted against them in 1987 and 1991. But overall, I don't really have strong emotions regarding the franchise anymore.

  4. Morris won 3 World Series with 3 different teams.

  5. When Ozzie Guillen managed the White Sox, he famously referred to the Twins as "piranhas" (say it with a heavy accent). That got a lot of airplay on Chicago sports radio.
